What caused the Teflon Products and Kynar Price Increases.
Over the past year, the industry has experienced more allocations than I've come across within my 3 decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have experienced several shortages, and delivery issues caused by material allocations through plastic resin vendors. This is definitely the first time I have seen all these issues at the same time. Polytetraflouroethylene (TFE) and PVDF are both on allocation. This pair of resins are in short supply. The PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) along with Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world interest in this mineral has grown significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used in a bunch of applications from non-stick fry pans to ptfe tape for personal use. This specific mineral is actually ...
